The Relationship Between Concentration and Shift in Equilibrium

Introduction:

Some chemical reactions come to completion term most reactions proceed only to a state of equilibrium, where twain reactants and products exist to purposeher. In the state of equilibrium, the rate of a rechargeable chemical reaction equals to the rate of its reverse reaction, and the concentrations of its products and reactants remain un shortened (Davis, Frey, M. Sarquis, & J. Sarquis, 2009). However, changing the pressure, the concentration, or the temperature of one reaction is said to be producing a stress on the equilibrium and can alter its equilibrium position and thereby change the relative amounts of reactants and products (Davis et al., 2009). In this lab, a stress, which is produced only by the change in concentration, is shown by the change of color during the reaction. To predict the influence of stress factors on equilibrium systems, the French chemist Henri Louis Le Châtelier developed a principle, which states that if a system at equilibrium is subjected to a stress, the equilibrium is shifted in the direction that tends to relieve the stress (Davis et al., 2009). This principle is named Le Châteliers principle and applied widely in reliable world.




Altitude sickness is mostly caused by the lack of oxygen, or more precisely, the lack of oxygenated hemoglobin in human luggage compartment (Science clarified, 2012). The interaction of hemoglobin and oxygen is expressed thereof: Hb(aq) + 4O2(g) ? Hb(O2)4(aq) (Science clarified, 2012). At significant elevations above sea level, the port pressure is lowered, so the equilibrium shifts to the side with fewer moles of gas, which is left, tally to Le Châteliers principle. Therefore, the reverse reaction is favored at high altitude; there is not enough oxygenated hemoglobin to feed to the bodys cells and tissues, so a individual tends to get altitude sickness.
