The United States is a country built on many cultures, languages, traditions, and beliefs (Valentin, 2006). According to the United States Census Bureau, the Hispanic and Asian populations will triple all over the next half century and non Hispanic whites will face nigh 50 percent of the total population by 2050, compargond with 69 percent in 2000. Hispanics be projected to draw of 24 percent of the population, Asians 8 percent, and Afri fag end Americans 14.6 percent of the boilers suit population ( Riley, 2004). The United States is increasingly becoming more than diverse. Diversity is everywhere you look in the United States. However, there are still areas that are very homogenous, where students need to deduce the vastness of the growing changes in the United States. Regardless of whether or not a student attends a diverse school, the world they consist in is very diverse. It is the instructors job to be sure the students understand the world they live in, and grow to understand and appreciate human diversity that is all around them.
Banks and Banks (2004) pitch that even thought the United States population continues to become more diverse, the majority of the teachers tend to be white, middle class women.
I fit into this category, however I feel as though I can still civilise my students effectively about diversity since I am the minority in the school I teach in. However, a lot of these teachers are belief to students who are similar to them. Those teachers need to be sure that their students are exposed to human diversity education. It is of the utmost importance that the teacher understands the beauty of diversity, and can relay this to the students. The teacher must educate the students about diversity, letting them know the United States is built on it.
