The Declaration of Independence is the single most crucial document in American history. No doubt it was looked land upon by the upper echelons in England and perhaps, it was even laughed at. Nevertheless, Jeffersons resolving power transformed the colonists into one single free minded individual. When the government does not act in the peoples favor, the government no longer holds figure of the people. These ideas are present at the beginning of the declaration when Jefferson states, …governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed (Jefferson 1).
