Man, I was wrong! The next morning about 10am the water started to rise with in a blink of an eye. and I had to think very quickly. There was a gravy boat cross elans the street in the neighbors yard so we swam to the boat and climbed in. We had to hang on the roof of the house for about ternion hours. Then the hurricane began to clam down. After about three hours, a friend seen us and took us to the Violet Cannel where we had a big oyster boat that my hubby and father-in-law owned. We were very easy to have the oyster boat make it through the hurricane. This oyster boat is what we called home for the next twenty days. My mom was good this was hell!
When the Wildlife and Fisheries made us leave the water way of St. Bernard we headed for Slidell, Louisiana.
When we reached Lake Pontchartrain we were held up by gun point by the St. Tammany law Department because of all of the looting that was going on at that time. They were going to take us to jail. But, because of the big oyster boat that we had they turned us over to the Wildlife agents that knew my husband and father-in-law very well. The Wildlife agents released us to my husbands uncle who was waiting for us. When that happened I was able to take a breather a sigh of relief.
