Race and Your Community Axia College of University of Phoenix Philadelphia: A metropolis of neighborhoods, cultural diversity, and racial tensions. up to now with these racial tensions comes the need to work together as oneness; one city, one community of interests, and one entity to enrich the lives of ourselves and those around us. works together through our differences will ensure the growth of our city in all aspects. In such a culturally rich environment, problems are bound to arise out of our physiological and religious differences, but all of our differences make us ofttimes to a greater extent similar than we may initially think. As I stated, Philadelphia is a city of neighborhoods. Each individual neighborhood at heart the city is do up of a variety of different people. Some areas are predominately African American, some are more often than not Asian American and Latin American, whereas others may be mostly Caucasian Americans and some are even a sashay of many races. My community, Northeast Philadelphia, Mayfair in particular, is predominately made up of Irish and Italian Catholic Americans; however, this is changing quickly and becoming more and more diverse with the sale of each home in the area. The community in which I work, North Philadelphia, Nicetown-Tioga in particular, is predominately made up of African Americans and Latin Americans.



Compared to the entire city, both are quite different (see figures 1,2, and 3; p.3). The graphs represent the vast differences in race between the two neighborhoods in the same city compared against the statistics of the entire city. Where I live and where I work are two very different communities both of which include blind drunk community leaders and a desire to improve the neighborhood and the city as a whole.
