ACORN INDUSTRIES

1. What are the strengths of Acorn?
i) Have a good reputation;
ii) Possessing a superior technical product;
iii) Strong Marketing section;
iv) Having a broad range of capabilities through acquisitions of smaller firms into Acorn; and
v) rose-colored to remain competitive in the industry.




2. What are the weaknesses of Acorn?


i) Not overmuch experience in handling government contract;
ii) traditional organisational structure;
iii) Decentralized management may caused escape of communication, different perspective, conflicting objectives and lack of coordination;
iv) No interaction & synchroneity between R & D & production engineering;
v) believe too much on their superior technological and the market team capabilities;
vi) Never fully adopted nor implemented either form of Project Management;
vii) Most of the managers too centralize on KMIP;
viii) No clear shared Vission, Mission and fair game of the entire organization of Acorn.




ix) Lack in communication inwardly organization





3. What are your recommendations?


i) From 1996 until 1998 Acorn had gone through 3 times organizational changes using various types mix and match of Organizational Structure. only problems still occur. It is recommended Acorn reorganized the organizational structure to Strong ground substance Organizational Structure as the chart in fig 1. It represent the middle ground between functional and shed structure.


All functional department including Program Management, Engineering, Marketing, Personnel, operations and flavor control should be headed by Functional Manager that account directly to the General Manager.
