The characters in the Great Gatsby keep several problems, some of which arose from the fact that due to prohibition, they enjoyed drinking as much alcohol as they could, as well as the new Coca-cola which was so named because it contained the drug cocaine. All the characters have conflicts, and one very meritable of evaluation is Jay Gatsby. Gatsby is an allegory for the rich amply society of the twenties in the USA. Gatsby cant picture forward and move on with his bread and butter because he cant let go of his past. He spends his whole life pining for Daisy. He got a house across the water supply from hers just so he could watch her light on the dock. He made himself a rich man of high social standing, all for the sole purpose of trying urgently to come after her back. He whole stand fors of Daisy as the girl he loved years ago in Louisville, and still loves. He refuses to forget the memories that he had with Daisy before the war. He cant accept the fact that Daisy has changed since then, and has become an uncaring person who only thinks about herself and her social position.
His biggest goal in life is to win back Daisy, so he has nothing to distract himself from that problem. He has no hobby except for being desperately in love with a woman who he knew once, but doesnt anymore.
Gatsby only cares about his problem with Daisy and how to solve it, and doesnt analyse anyone elses feelings into consideration. He knows that shes married now, but it doesnt stop him trying to woo her. He doesnt think about Toms feelings for Daisy. He doesnt plane consider the possibility that Daisy did not want him anymore.
