Middle Eastern Countries Military Scheme

The declaration for Russia to keep her detainment off was directed mainly at the Arab humans, but since the belief implied a degree of interference in the internal personal business of these Arab countries, they opposed it bitterly. The doctrine was tested in 1957 and 1958 with the attempted Jordanian coup, backed by a pro-Nasser faction in the army, and by the war in Lebanon into which the U.S. intervened by sending troops at the request of President Chamoun. American involvement was clearly a matter for the long term, and British involvement had by today been reduced to a secondary position at best.

The Eisenhower philosophical system was promulgated as a "Message from President Eisenhower to relative" on January 5, 1957. The message begins by reiterating the American commitment to mankind peace and so to peace for all nations, large and delicate:

There is no nation, great or small, with which we would ref use to negotiate, in mutual good faith, with patience and in the determination to gear up a better understanding between us. Out of such understandings must, and eventually will, grow confidence and trust, indispensable ingredients to a class of peace and to plans for lifting from us all the burdens of expensive armaments.

This leads to the specific national of the Middle East, a region which Eisenhower says has reached a critical fix up in its history as the nations of the region have been achieving emancipation and self-government, a ch

After the Sinai cause of 1956, there was a period of relative quiet on the Israel-Egypt border, in part because of the presence of the United Nations. This did not look upon that the conflict was ended, however, and within a year of the "settlement" of the 1956 dispute, the Arab world experienced a series of upheavals. The Iraqi king was deposed and killed. Egypt and Jordan were handicraft blows. Lebanon had a civil war. Israel's border with Egypt was comparatively peaceful, but a center of Arab activity against Israel developed along the Syrian and past the Jordanian borders. From their vantage point on the Golan Heights, the Syrians shelled Israeli settlements and excessively laid mines and carried on a minor war of contriteness along the edge.

On February 1, 1960, the Israeli Defense Forces carried out a reprisal raid against Syrian posts in Khirbet Tawfiq on the Sea of Galilee. However, the Syrians go on to attack fishing boats on the lake, to shell villages in the Huleh Valley, and to plunder on agricultural workers in the demilitarized zone along the frontier (Herzog 145-146).

Russia's rulers have long sought to dominate the Middle East. That was true of the Czars and it is true of the Bolsheviks. The reasons are not spartan to find. They do not affect Russia's security, for no one plans to use the Middle East as a base for invasion against Russia. Never for a moment has the United States entertained such a thought. The Soviet Union has nothing whatsoever to forethought from the United States in the Middle East, or anywhere else in the world, so long as its rulers do not themselves send-off resort to aggression.
